first thing first.
I have been super slack with posts, as I dont think I've had a chance to sit still for about 2 weeks.

and I know its late notice for telling you about the next few things I'm about to tell you about, but I'm sure you all know about them anyway!

first up is Buffet. Buffet is a forum that is run by a few mates of mine (who are no doubt stressed as fuck right now) over at Acclaim mag.



(I can't find the online invite.... meh) anyway, they are been busy cooking up a tasty selection of streetwear, fashion, and lotsa designy type treats to wrap your little mouth around.
The Convention consists of 2 whole days of speakers from varying backgrounds and walks of life, and a trade show (YES TRADE SHOW!!)..... it should be amazing, and I strongly Suggest you git yo'selves down there if you are in anyway design oriented/sneaker freaked or just bored (?) tickets here.

oh. and theres going to be an amazing opeining party TONIGHT! YES TONIGHT!

In conjunction with LTRHDS (letterheads) exhibition at 1000Pound Bend Gallery...

This exhibition is NOT TO BE MISSED by anyone who has been lucky enough to be given eyes that function.

LTRHDS is an exhibition based around the australian alphabet. Each of the 26 featured artists are given a letter to reproduce in their own way... and then guess what? they have a massive party and show off their work.
I am far too excited about this show!

Seriously. GRAEME BASE. the genius behind Animalia, The Eleventh Hour. He is arguably one of my favourite all time illustrators, and he is going to be here.

ZOOM!

one of my favourite local/aussie artists at the moment (and will probably forever) is Kid Zoom.
The young talent has been in Old Melbourne town for the past few days (weeks?), and we had the pleasure of watching him do the things he does best at the St. Ali festival last saturday.
Unfortunately for many people, myself definitely included, I decided to profess my undying love for his work on one knee whilst highly intoxicated... and now feel a little silly about writing this post...
reguardless, I have chosen to suck it up and post anyway, as his genius is far too superior and important that my drunken ego.

besides, it was pretty funny.

anyway. Kid Zoom lives in Perth (clearly only the best people are spawned from perth)
He describes himself as being a low-brow art dirtbag. everyone loves a good dirtbag.

By no means am I a high-class fashionita,
I own nothing that cost over $200 let alone $2000, but I do like to think that
I have an opinion on what I think is dope in the world of high-fashion,
and this. this I think is dope!!
Mostly because its a mix of awesome design and one of my favourite illustrators of all time

James Jean and Prada did a collection based around a bag in spring 2008.
HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS!?!?

the illutrations are beautiful, the bag is stunning (although im not sure who would rock it?)

but the photo shoot looks pretty amazing also.

The fabrics he designed are really intricate and amazing. All in for this 'wearing art' thing.

Ive been thinking about blogging about this guy for some time now...... He came up in conversation over the weekend.. and I think its time..

My mate saw him speak at some design conference a few years back. Apparenty he didnt talk through the whole thing- he just sat there and flicked through some slides of his work and then some dude in a superhero costume ran around for a bit.

which, admittedly, is fairly cool and different than being talked at for an hour in some cases- comes off as a little arrogant...

anyway... Anthony Lister is a Painter.. he mainly paints kinda Lowbrow kinda stuff- mainly of characters and stuff... here take a peek.




his work is absoltely amazing, its so loose and free and beautiful.. in an ugly lowbrow kinda way. his use of space and white really makes his characters pop... but aside from all this wanker arty talk. Its really his background story that im super interested in..



Anthony was born in Mexico and grew up in Brisbane apparently. he went to art school up there. and aparently found himself a cheeky little coke attiction.
This guy.. seriously... he is what artists are MEANT to be!!
The Jackson Pollock. the Brett Whitley. who doesnt give a fuck and trashes shit and causes a fucking massive rukkus constantly, but everyone still worships him and puts up with it cos they love his work. and they secretly love him too.
even those uptight fucking suits who deal art and talk shit about wine.
they love this guy!
cos hes fucking nuts!

here is a brief list of the charges he had had against him in the space of 2001-2008:

"....several sexual harassment charges, grievous bodily harm, possession of class A drugs, drinking in public, urinating in public, willful damage, break and enter, assaulting a police officer and several parking tickets"
sounds like a good night out no?

he also has been kicked out of some night club in NY in 2007 cos he 'exposed himself to a bunch of bouncers at the place and groped the owners wife.


Apparently his dad was assasinated by a head of an infamous drug cartel around this time too..


pretty crazy though.
